FIRST AID

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first-aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with five or fewer employees and to the self-employed. The number of qualified first aiders depends on the number of employees. How does this qualification differ from the old Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work? The assessment regime has changed – candidates must

  • participate in all three assessment activities

  • complete a test paper

  • demonstrate competence in first-aid procedures for the management of a casualty:

  • who is unresponsive and breathing normally (recovery position)

  • who is unresponsive and not breathing normally (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)

  • the assessment is conducted by trainers on the day

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN BASIC LIFE SUPPORT AND SAFE USE OF AN AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR

Successful completion of the training programme will provide candidates with the essential knowledge and skills to be able to recognise when someone has suffered cardiac arrest and to respond to the emergency quickly, calmly and confidently.

Who needs this qualification?

The CIEH Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator is suitable for all employees in a workplace where an AED is present for public use, whether or not they have previously undertaken first-aid training.

Why is this qualification important?

The delay from someone collapsing following cardiac arrest to receiving a shock from an AED is the single most important factor in determining how likely the casualty is to survive, and having the skills and confidence to use such a device where it is available can save lives.

Duration 1/2 day

Cost £50.00 per person
