The CIEH Level 3 Award in Training Principles and Practice course allows professionally qualified specialists to gain the basic knowledge and skills needed to develop and deliver in-house training programmes, and is a recognised qualification that is sufficient to become registered as a Trainer for Level 1 and 2 courses.

This generic course is suitable for personnel with a specific responsibility for the training and learning support of others, wishing to deliver CIEH qualifications.

This 3 day course covers the understanding, planning, delivering and evaluating of inclusive teaching and learning.

The assessment for this course includes a practical assessed training session and a 1000 word assignment on the subject specialism. The practical assessed ‘micro-teach’ session involves:

  • Producing a structured plan to deliver a 20-25 minute training session

  • Completion of a self-evaluation that reviews the effectiveness of the session delivered, includes peer evaluations with discussion and feedback

The progression from the Level 3 Award in Training Principles and Practice is the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, this qualification replaced the old PTLLS. This course includes the content from the Training Principles and Practice plus the following:

  • Roles, Responsibilities and relationships in education

  • Understanding assessment in education and training



 Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector This qualification sets the minimum standard for all those in or entering the teaching, learning and development sector. It introduces the knowledge and skills required by teachers to develop and deliver programmes, provide learning support and take responsibility in managing the learning process in post-16 education.Who needs this qualification? Anyone entering teaching or training roles or already in-service who needs to achieve the minimum threshold status as a teacher within the following:

Further Education College Adult and community learning centre Work-based learning or training organisation Why is this training important? From 2010 anyone who teaches courses that are publicly-funded will have to be qualified. This qualification meets the basic minimum standard for those entering the lifelong learning profession and confers a threshold licence to teach.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training

The CIEH Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a nationally recognised qualification for teaching in post -16 education (i.e. adult education). It gives teachers, or those wishing to teach in the adult sector, post compulsory sector, a recognised award that will enable them to demonstrate they have the required skills to deliver planned sessions of training that can be effectively assessed. Successful candidates have the option to progress to a level 4 or 5 qualification as they gain experience and expertise in their field – finishing with a full QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) qualification if they so wish.

This qualification has been developed in conjunction with City & Guilds and Ofqual and is the latest and most up to date qualification in the education and training field.

All candidates who attend will have the support of our fully qualified, vastly experienced and flexible tutors throughout the learning process.

This qualification will provide the candidates with the ability to:

Understand when and how to use various teaching techniques

Plan sessions that are effective and interesting for the learner

Fully prepare candidates to confidently deliver sessions

Following successful completion of this course you will be qualified to start teaching and training and putting your new gained skills to practice and be able to fully plan, prepare and deliver effective sessions of teaching and training.

This qualification is not suitable for those wishing to teach in the compulsory education area i.e. those wishing to teach in primary and or secondary schools.
